Finances & Insurance for Counseling Services

Counseling services can be paid for in several ways, including with your insurance carrier. It’s important to me that my clients know upfront what they will pay for counseling services. It is upsetting to clients to find out after we have a session that I am not covered or that they are responsible for more than they thought.   Please review the following information and contact me with any questions.

Paying for your counseling service with Insurance:

I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Blue Choice,  Aetna and  United Health Care. I am not in network with  HMO plans.  Aetna and United Health Care have multiple plans, and I am not listed with all of them.

PLEASE CALL YOUR INSURANCE BEFORE OUR FIRST SESSION TO BE SURE I AM IN NETWORK AND TO FIND OUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS, OR IF A DEDUCTIBLE NEEDS TO BE MET BEFORE YOUR INSURANCE PAYS. Some insurances use a third party for mental health benefits and counseling services.  I may not be a provider for that third party insurance, so sessions may not be covered. (ex-even if your insurance card says Blue Cross Blue Shield, your policy may use another insurance for mental health services).

As a courtesy to my clients, I will submit your in-network claims directly to the above insurance companies for the portion of service that your insurance contracts for. You will be responsible for your co-pay, your co-insurance or deductible portion if it isn’t met. The Policy form page of my website provides the details of what to ask your insurance company about your counseling service benefits.

FEES:

My fees are $175 for the initial 55 minute session, and $150 for a 55 minute session thereafter. If you have insurance, the plan will pro-rate it according to their contract.

You are responsible for your deductible or co-insurance according to the insurance contract agreement for mental health. (Deductible needs to be paid before your insurance will pay their co-insurance)

PAYMENT:

I accept cash, check, credit cards, debit careds and HSA/FSA cards through a HIPAA compliant merchant service integrated with my Therapy Appointment system. Payment is due at time of service.  I do not hold balances beyond 30 days so that I can meet my finanical obligations.

Out of Network Insurance Coverage/Private Pay

You can call your insurance to find out what their out of network benefits are. Some insurance companies will pay up to 70% of out of network counseling sessions. For out of network clients, I can provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. You will need to pay for sessions at the time of service and submit the superbill to your insurance company.

PRIVATE PAY:

If there are circumstances which would prevent you from paying the full fee, please discuss them with me. Financial hardships, family size, changes in employment will be considered to set the fee. I do not offer a “sliding scale” fee structure.
